What is NILD Educational Therapy?

The WOW Living and the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD) offers learning tools filled with hope.

Awareness brings a lifestyle of responding to circumstances and others in peace.

NILD Educational Therapy is not tutoring. NILD Educational Therapy strengthens weaknesses in thinking and perception to support independent learning. It teaches tools to tackle any homework assignment, but so much more.

Educational Therapy is used to treat individuals with learning differences, disabilities, and challenges.

We work closely with students and family to create a plan for improvement in not only academic settings, but daily life as well.

This approach is individualized and involves intensive mediated learning. We address learning challenges and raise expectations for change not only in the mind but also in the emotions of the student, building confidence and competence for independent functioning.

Students become active participants in their learning. They emerge as independent learners, better prepared to achieve academically and to make the most of whatever comes their way, beyond the classroom. And parents learn too. We offer coaching and equipping to educate the entire family unit on ways to support the student in responsive and supportive pathways toward growth and development.

What is an Educational Therapy session like?

Educational therapy combines an understanding of how individuals learn, and how emotions impact learning along with knowledge of specialized educational therapy methods. Educational therapy involves discovery, assessment, and addressing the strengths and challenges in an individual’s pattern of learning.

A gold star is not the goal for a child or adult in educational therapy. Tools to master self-confidence, focus, and contentment in all life settings, including school, is the goal.

When a child struggles repeatedly despite parent and school interventions or tutoring, they should receive an educational assessment to identify their unique profile of strengths and weaknesses. Waiting to see if they just “grow out of it” is not a helpful plan of action.

Children do not outgrow learning disabilities.

Unidentified learning challenges affect more than just school, they can lead to social and emotional problems.
